Mötley Crüe guitarist Mick Mars is recovering after undergoing hip-replacement surgery on Tuesday.
Mars, 53, has been suffering from a chronic degenerative illness, ankylosing spondylitis, for some time and underwent the surgery to ease the pain of the damaged joint, according to his spokesperson.
"The surgery went extremely well," Mars' surgeon Dr. Brad Penenberg said following the operation. "I expect him to be walking with the help of a physical therapist as early as Wednesday morning."
Individuals afflicted with Mars' illness suffer from a fusing together of some or all joints and bones of the spine. The affected area becomes inflamed and some of the bone may erode, but only about six percent of sufferers of the disease need to undergo hip-replacement surgery. The illness cannot be cured but the pain can be minimized with anti-inflammatory drugs, according to the National Ankylosing Spondylitis Society.
A spokesperson for the group was optimistic about Mars' recovery from surgery. "Mötley Crüe are a gang of musicians that climbed the mountain of rock to success," Allen Kovac, CEO of Tenth Street Entertainment, said in a statement. "A healthy Mick Mars gives hope to all those who love one of rock's most passionate and aggressive bands."

hmmm guessing my grandma (whom raised me) knew this about one of my fav. bands & that's why I wasn't allowed to see them live

The band disbanded in 1996 from no one getting along. Tommy Lee has openly stated he'd never go back with Motley Crue as his life is entwined in new adventures. Amazing how managers of each member took on the job of getting this world tour on the go wayyyyy before the band was even consulted nor asked if they wanted to get back together to do this

Motley Crue gets Hollywood Walk of Fame star
LOS ANGELES (AP) — It was girls, girls, girls Wednesday when the bad boys of '80s heavy metal band Motley Crue received the 2,301st star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
"We're across the street from the Erotica Museum and Frederick's of Hollywood. This is a perfect place for us to be," bassist Nikki Sixx told an estimated 600 screaming fans.
Sixx joined drummer Tommy Lee, guitarist Mick Mars and singer Vince Neil at the ceremony in front of the Musician's Institute on Hollywood Boulevard.
Lee pretended to cry. "I think there's something in my eye," he said.
Motley Crue formed in Los Angeles in 1981, enduring a breakup, death and drugs to become one of the world's top touring groups with 40 million albums sold.
Singles such as Girls Girls Girls, Smokin' in the Boys Room and Dr. Feelgood about sex, booze and highjinks propelled the band to rock star status during the 1980s.
But tragedy followed, from singer Vince Neil's 1984 involvement in a car accident that killed Hanoi Rocks drummer Nicholas Razzle Dingley to bassist Sixx's near-death from a heroin overdose in 1987. Vince has never stopped touring. He has his own band which he does Motley Crue covers. His vocals are spryced up as they were never shut down all these years ;D The death of his daughter set a new journey infront for Vince Neil & sometimes tragedy has to happen where it really hits home (the heart)
.....As for Nikki Sixx's drug/alcohol world of destruction....He is sober/clean for many years now. AA has been his support system ;D Owns a well known tattoo/artist shop in the USA & has thrived on the hopping clothing line also.

WOW is all I can say about this man! He is not one for doctors, hospitals nor your sympathy
& he has stated to all whom question his ability to pull off this world 30th anniversary tour " HA HA WATCH ME "
He has basically been dwindling away in his 5500 ft mansion with not much contact with the band nor the world as a matter of fact. Truely amazing all around
