Well, yes it is.
Paintball is a sport usually played between two teams of anywhere between two to unlimited players. We usually play capture the flag, just like the kids game except we added the wildcard of range. The games we play last anywhere from 15 minutes to 24 hours in duration, depending on what is going on.
It was about Fifteen years ago that someone got the bright idea to use some 'tree markers' that the Nelson Paint company was selling to shoot at each other. Since that fateful day the technology changed, as did the paint we use, as did everything else. The early pioneers of the game didn't know what they started.
Everything we use in the sport of paintball has little to no environmental impact. The paintballs themselves are glycol, sorbitol, food colouring inside a gelatin capsule. (And, for some reason, animals do eat the stuff, but I find it horrifyingly awful)! The paintguns are powered with refillable compressed Carbon-Dioxide tanks or compressed air rigs. Nothing is left behind.
The game has a very low injury rating. We rank safer than football, basketball, golf, and (statistically speaking), it's safer than staying home. The reason the game is so safe is the procedures we all adhere to. We may disagree on details, but all paintball players agree that you must wear paintball approved goggles when you go onto the field to play. Ski, motocross, shop or chemical goggles will not stop a paintball. What we use will. Also, the use of a barrel plug is manditory.
When you get to a field, they'll be more than happy to show all this to you.
But are we just a fringe group? Not anymore. What started as a "mostly male game of Grown-ups playing war" has now become an acceptable family activity. Yes, I've seen whole families out on the field playing together. And they were having fun. Yeah, fun!
There's a lot of questions that new players have, and it would be redundant for me to answer them. I fully recomend that you check out Warpig, they have a complete list of topics that I haven't covered. (I may end up typing them in anyhow, but for now I differ to them)
If you have a specific question, you can ask us on the internet! Steer your web browser to Rec.Sport.Paintball or Alt.Sport.Paintball and ask us. We have a whole collection of players who have the expertice to answer your specific question.
The patch you see to the right is worn proudly by several Team Internet players. To be brief, Team Internet is a collection of people around the world who play paintball, are on the Internet, and have taken to heart the values of 'stand-up' paintball. Play by the rules, help those who need helping, and so on.
This is all I can babble off for now, I'm typing this at 4 AM right now, so it may be incoherent. I'll add more later.

Hay all! Paintball is totally awesome! I play with some buds out this guys ranch. Lots of bush/trees and that's what makes the game tougher! Am I the only one that likes Paintball in this forum? Talk to me, later Bill.
