THE DUNE BOOKS!
(nuff_said) I loved Dune. I've read it about 3 times, but I've heard very mixed opinions of the books after the first one. Some people claim that the rest are too different (read: shitty) to even be the work of the same author! What's your opinion? If there weren't so many books I wanted to read, I might have checked them out by now... just never bothered.

I suppose these classify as Sci-Fi...
One of my favourite Authors is Harry Turtledove.
Most of his books are "Alternate History" novels. He takes a certain point in history, says "What if?" and then extrapolates on it.
One of his coolest series is the World War series. It's set during the height of World War II and an Alien Invasion Fleet invades Earth. It's quite brilliant.
And another of his awesome series is his American Civil war series. It starts off with a certain crucial point in the US Civil War. It goes to the Confederate's favour and they end up winning the war. Then the rest of the books deal with the ongoing history of the United States of America and the Confederate States of America.
Good stuff.
