After a night of heavy drinking, Bon died in a car parked outside a friend's flat in South London sometime on February 19, 1980. He was prononced dead on arrival at Kings College Hospital. Bon Scott lies in the Fremantle Cemetery's Memorial Garden in Australia.

Stuart Sutcliffe, an original member of the Beatles, dies of cerebral paralysis cause by a brain hemorrhage in Hamburg, Germany. Sutcliffe met John Lennon when the two were at art school. Sutcliffe introduced Lennon to modern art & literature & Lennon introduced Sutcliffe to rock & roll. He joined the Beatles & played bass (Paul McCartney was on rhythm guitar at the time). Stuart Sutcliffe was 22 years old.

The Crew-Cuts' cover of the Penguins' 1954 #1 R&B hit " Earth Angel " begins a 20-week run on the British charts.

Decca Records releases the Rolling Stones' " Aftermath " in Britain. Featuring " Mother's Little Helper," " Under My Thumb," " Goin' Home," " Lady Jane," " Out of Time " another gems from their music arsenal. In 2wks, it will hit #1 for a 9wk stay at that position on the U.K. album chart. In the U.S., " Aftermath " will reach #2.

The rest of Jerry Garcia's ashes were scattered near the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. A small portion had been scattered in the Ganges River in India 11 days earlier.

The film " Entropy " makes its world debut at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival. The movie features U2 in their acting debut. Bono is the only band member with lines in the romantic comedy starring Stephen Dorff & co-produced by Robert DeNiro. The band plays themselves.

The Hollies open their first tour of the U.S. at the Brooklyn Paramount theater in New York. The English group has had only one very minor hit in America, their Hot 100 cover of Doris Troy's " Just One Look."

Fats Domino's " Ain't That a Shame," which Billboard erroneously lists for months as " Ain't It a Shame," is released on Commodore Records.

Eddie Cochran dies in a hospital in Bath, England, from severe brain injuries sustained in a car crash near Chippenham, Wiltshire. Also injured in the crash are Cochran's girlfriend Sharon Sheeley & rocker Gene Vincent.

The Rolling Stones' debut album, " The Rolling Stones " is released in the U. K. on Decca Records. It will be released in the U.S. on London Records as England's newest hitmaker.

The Beach Boys' " Help Me Rhonda " is released.
- 1970
Johnny Cash performs at the White House at the invitation of President Richard M. Nixon. Nixon asked Cash to perform " Okie From Muskogee " but Cash refused since it wasn't his song. Instead, Cash sang his #1 hit, " A Boy Named Sue."

Paul McCartney releases his first solo album, " McCartney." The self-interview enclosed with the album basically confirms that the Beatles had broken up.

1976 Veteran jazz guitarist George Benson's album "Breezin'" enters the album chart. It will go on to become one of the best-selling jazz albums of all time. The albums goes gold on June 4 and platinum on August 10.

" Jailbreak," Irish rockers Thin Lizzy's most successful U.S. release, enters the chart. It will peak at #18 thanks to their #12 gold single, " The Boys are Back in Town."

Bob Marley & the Wailers are performers & official guests of State at Zimbabwe's Independence festival. Marley calls the event the " greatest honor of my life."

Iron Maiden's third album, " The Number of the Beast," enters the U.K. LP chart at #1. The British heavy-metal group says the making of the album, which contains references to Satanism, was haunted by mysterious things like amplifiers blowing out for no apparent reason & tapes losing recorded tracks & picking up strange voices. However, the best story is about a car accident their producer was involved in soon after the LP's title song was recorded. His auto repair bill came to 666 pounds, the Number of the Beast.

Toto, a group of veteran L.A. studio sessionmen, enter the pop chart again with " Roseanna " at #81. It will later climb to #1 & be named Record of the Year at the 1983 Grammy Awards.

Susanna Hoffs Former Bangles leader marries screenwriter M. Jay Roach in Los Angeles.
- 1998
Linda Eastman McCartney, wife of Beatle Paul McCartney, dies in Tucson, AZ while vacationing with her family. She had been suffering from cancer since 1995.
